Laughter is Love

Quick name an exercise that is fun with the  benefits of oxygenating your body, increasing  your circulation, strengthening your immune  system, alleviating stress, building self confidence, improving your social connections, keeping you young, and more……. Answer: Laughter Yoga.

Imagine laughing for no reason;  pure unadulterated joy like that of a child. Most  adults find their lives deprived of such laughter,  and this needs to change.

Laughter Yoga is a deceptively simple, yet very powerful and potentially life-changing, form of exercise that anybody can do — anytime, anywhere. Its core premise is that your body can and knows how to laugh, regardless of what your mind has to say. Laughter Yoga is a body-mind approach to laughter, not something mind-body. The distinction is very important. Here you do not need to have a sense of humor, know jokes, or even be happy to participate in a Laughter Yoga session.

“YOGA,” from the Sanskrit means to get hold, to integrate and harmonize. It means getting hold of our lives and harmonizing our minds with our bodies and our spirits and society.

The concept of Laughter Yoga is based on the scientific observation that the body cannot differentiate between fake and real laughter, and that both provide the same physiological and psychological benefits. Laughter Yoga combines unconditional laughter with pranayama (yogic breathing). Laughter is simulated as a body exercise in a group; with eye contact and childlike playfulness, initially forced laughter soon turns into real and contagious laughter. The “laughter” is physical in nature, and does not necessarily involve humor or comedy.

Dr. Madan Kataria, a Physician from Mumbai, India, launched the first Laughter Club at a Park on March 13, 1995, with merely a handful of persons. Today, it has become a worldwide phenomenon with more than 7000 Social Laughter Clubs in about 60 countries.

A rich network of emotional connections is the number-one reason for people to be happy and the most powerful factor in our happiness is good relationships. This is more important than money, job satisfaction or marital status. Social Laughter Yoga Clubs have proved beneficial to the group and the individual in many ways

Few natural therapies are as potent, in their ability to neutralize the unrelenting realities of our fast-paced world, as laughter. Shown to decrease stress hormones, stimulate circulation, ease pain,  increase immune cells and bolster infection fighting antibodies.
